Album Info:Photos taken in Muscatine, Iowa and some taken in Muscatine County, Iowa. Muscatine's first railroad was the Rock Island in the 1850s. Today, I am not sure if any trace of the former Rock Island exists. Later, the Milwaukee Road went through Muscatine on its line from Chicago to Kansas City. There was a Milwaukee Road yard near the Mississippi River. Later, following MILW's bankruptcy, the Soo Line took over this line and later the CP spun this line off to the Iowa Montana Rail Link. Today, this line is run by the Iowa, Chicago & Eastern but is in the process of being repurchased by the Canandian Pacific. There are also some UP run through trains on this line. Also in Muscatine County is the former Rock Island Chicago-Omaha line now run by the Iowa Interstate.

Description:  I think that the railroad's motivation for this fence was not entirely motivated by aesthetics, but probably safety as well to keep pedestrians crossing at defined points and off the railroad tracks. It didn't work - I saw a pair of young ladies, one of whom was sitting on the tracks posing (these are active mainline tracks, mind you) and the other taking her photograph.

Description:  Note the way cool Quen Anne style mansion on the hill - back when that house was vacant for several years, it would have made the grooviest haunted house. I think its since been renovated and reoccupied.

Description:  This one was frustrating - I was headed back from the river when it showed up - and my camera took too long to get ready and only caught the rear locomotive even though being out of position the angle is actually pretty cool with the Mississippi River and Illinois providing a good backdrop. Oh well, you get what you can get. The Highway 61 Business/MSR 92 signs are a bonus if you are into roads.

Description:  If I had not seen this depot prior to its restoration, I would question calling the restoration a resurrection but as it is, it is actually an appropriate term because the building was practically raised from the dead. Note the Brick Street, a nice added touch
